Annual climbers have the great advantage of long flowering and flexible use. The Ipomoea assortment is steadily expanding into a “something for everyone” assortment. Regarding the species name: I. purpurea is a true annual, I. tricolor has thicker leaves and can be overwintered as a tub plant. They twine or creep in a pot or garden, and are also beautiful as a hanging plant!
A unique Ipomoea! Introduced in the ornamental horticulture at the end of the 18th century. When the other morning glory flowers roll up again (at dusk), the large
(10-15cm diameter) flowers unroll in a spotless silky white colour! They only close again in the morning: a real night bloomer. This requires a wonderful scent and they certainly have it! The climbing plant can grow to 2-4m long.
